Ruby Gems is a package management application for Ruby that is used to quickly and easily distribute Ruby/Rails applications and libraries.
If you are planning on doing any development in Ruby, this is a must have.
To give an overview of installing gems, updating them and, if necessary, removing them.
We'll also look at some housekeeping and clean up and remove older versions of updated gems.
Note that you have a separate Rubygems installation for each Ruby version in your RVM or rbenv setup. If you are using Ruby 1.8.7 you cannot use the latest version of Rubygems.
Type the following to get the latest version that is compatible with 1.8.7: Because of occasional security issues in Ruby Gems binaries, you should keep them updated across all Rubies on your machines. Afterwards, list your installed versions to confirm it worked.
